AND THE NOMINEES ARE:
JACKIE PAYNE STEVE EDMONSON BAND “OVERNIGHT SENSATION”
Nominated for “Most Outstanding Blues Singer” (Jackie Payne)

JACKIE PAYNE STEVE EDMONSON BAND "OVERNIGHT SENSATION"
$12.99 (+s/h)
|
On their sophomore effort for Delta Groove, Jackie Payne and Steve Edmonson demonstrate once again their mastery of the fine art of timeless Rhythm & Blues delivered with style and flair that recall the classic sounds of Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding and Bobby "Blue" Bland. “Overnight Sensation” is a terrific example of this dynamic and wickedly tight band, which also features bassist Bill Singletary and drummer Nick Otis, along with the “Sweet Meet Horns” consisting of Carl Green on tenor and alto sax and Lech Wiersynski on trumpet, as they take an explosive romp through another sweaty set of Gospel, Soul, Blues and R&B.
“Payne growls and testifies with class while Edmonson fires off notes in his solos that seem to both absorb into and ricochet off of plank floors and cavernous rafters.” – Hittin’ The Note
“…one of the tightest soul-blues aggregations of the new millennium.” – Blues Revue Magazine
“Co-fronting one of the best working bands today, Payne and able guitarist Edmonson show a lively intuition in overhauling the tried-and-true Southern soul and blues forms.” – Downbeat |
THE MANNISH BOYS “LOWDOWN FEELING”
Nominated for “Best Blues Album of 2008 (New Recordings)”

MANNISH BOYS
"LOWDOWN FEELIN'"
$12.99 (+s/h)
|
“Lowdown Feelin’” is the fourth installment by The Mannish Boys, which looks to capture all the success and forward momentum stirred by their previous effort – the universally praised release “Big Plans.” Evoking the spirit of such legendary Rhythm & Blues revues of the past as the Johnny Otis Show, Ike Turner & The Kings Of Rhythm, or even the highly regarded American Folk Blues Festival, The Mannish Boys look to single handedly restore this grand tradition and carry it forward into the 21st century. This unrivaled convergence of world class talent combines the very best of both the older and younger generations representing the Blues.
“The Manish Boys seem to be in command of virtually every classic, neo-classic, obscure, and almost-unknown riff and lick in the postwar cannon, and they approach it all with unfettered enthusiasm and commitment.” – Living Blues Magazine
“…no finer collection of blues talent exists today in one band.” – Blues Revue Magazine
“An all-star blues band with an authentic spirit, The Mannish Boys have what it takes to preserve the music that deserves to be called our national treasure.” – Southland Blues Magazine |
ELVIN BISHOP “THE BLUES ROLLS ON”
Nominated for “Best Blues Album of 2008 (New Recordings)

ELVIN BISHOP
"THE BLUES ROLLS ON"
$12.99 (+s/h)
|
"The Blues Rolls On" harks back to Elvin Bishop's roots, paying tribute to the musicians who inspired him and who also helped give him his start. Supported by an all-star cast of blues royalty featuring B.B. King, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, George Thorogood, James Cotton, Kim Wilson, Tommy Castro, John Nemeth, Angela Strehli, plus many more, Bishop leads the way through a smoldering set of searing blues and rollicking R&B. While Bishop handles a majority of the vocals he graciously steps aside on several numbers in order to allow his guests ample room to strut their stuff, including rising star and vocal powerhouse John Nemeth, as well as other distinguished personnel that include George Thorogood, Angela Strehli, Ronnie Baker Brooks and R.C. Carrier. “The Blues Rolls On” is another defining moment in Bishop’s long career; a crowning achievement and welcome reminder for all of us that the blues is still alive and well.
“…Elvin has become one of the most respected and beloved artists to come out of the 60’s blues-rock explosion” – All About Jazz
"…careening slide and razor-edged bursts, all delivered with unflagging enthusiasm and wit.” – Rolling Stone
"Bishop is a good-hearted soul whose life mission is to entertain to the best of his ability." – Downbeat |

“It is rare these days to see young blues musicians come along who have the kind of vision and commitments to play this music and make a go of it like these guys are. I am impressed by their talents and their humility…” – Al Blake (Hollywood Blue Flames)
"Vyasa really is a triple threat: guitar player, singer and songwriter. No doubt he is one hell of a guitar player, but it is his singing on this that really knocks me out." – Junior Watson
"The Portland, Oregon, group has that West Coast Swing sound down pat, performing tight numbers with original songwriting…There are no wasted notes and the music breathes with the palm trees.” – Blues Wax

“Who can sleep, with The Insomniacs?” That’s a question posed in the latest issue of Blue Suede News (#86 Spring 2009). And no, this is not another revealing, behind-the-scenes tell-all tale about the debauchery and wild drunken antics of life on the road with a bunch of traveling rogue musicians (you should be ashamed of yourself for even considering that!). Instead the reader is treated to a 3-page Q&A with Vyasa Dodson and Dean Mueller about their background, the band, and their irresistibly swinging new CD “At Least I’m Not With You.”

Bobby Jones was recently interviewed by Lee Hildebrand for an upcoming feature in Living Blues Magazine. Last year Hildebrand was invited to the recording studio during the sessions that produced both The Mannish Boys’ “Lowdown Feelin’” and Bobby Jones’ “Comin’ Back Hard.” The end result was an in-depth 10-page cover story that delved into the histories on each of the individual Mannish Boys and a behind the scenes look at the making of “Lowdown Feelin’” which was recently honored with two Blues Music Award nominations for Album of the Year and Traditional Album of the Year.

Los Fabulocos were featured on the front page of the entertainment section in La Opinion on March 13, 2009. The article undoubtedly helped elevate the status of the band in the Hispanic community as it is the largest Spanish-language newspaper in the United States and the second-most read newspaper in Los Angeles (after the Los Angeles Times). In addition, the band was also featured in the April issue of the monthly trade publication Music Connection.
