Joining Kashmar on his performances for this release are Pontiax drummer Tom Lackner, bassist Steve Nelson, pianist Jimmy Calire, and former William Clarke guitarist John Marx providing the perfect foil to Kashmar’s dynamic harp playing and emotive vocals. BOBBY JONES FEAT. THE MANNISH BOYS

Early next year Delta Groove Music will proudly introduce the solo album debut by Chicago Blues veteran Bobby Jones, the latest addition to the all-star revue The Mannish Boys. This collection of songs was recorded during the very same sessions that produced the critically acclaimed release Lowdown Feelin’ and focuses the spotlight squarely on Jones. No doubt fans of The Mannish Boys will not want to miss this outing as he is joined here by the band along with special guests Junior Watson, Al Blake, Lynwood Slim and Fred Kaplan as they perform fresh interpretations of obscure blues classics from the songbooks of George “Harmonica" Smith, Elmore James, Freddie King, Junior Wells, Ike Turner, B.B. THE INSOMNIACS IN THE STUDIO:

The Insomniacs just finished tracking their new album for Delta Groove in October. The band recently made a pass through town performing at the Café Boogaloo in Hermosa Beach before heading out to perform at The Rhythm Room in Phoenix, Arizona. The following week of rest and relaxation in Laguna Beach, CA was cut short for the band when Delta Groove CEO Randy Chortkoff came calling, inspired by hearing the band’s new material at their show the previous week. The recording session was cut on the fly in a day and a half, with in-house retail specialist and blues enthusiast, Jeff Scott Fleenor at the helm. The band was joined by special guest Mitch Kashmar who blew harp on the Junior Wells' classic Hoodoo Man Blues, while Al Blake supplied harmonica on Memphis Slim's Lonesome, which was also covered on the original LP by the Hollywood Fats Band. Blake lent Vyasa Dodson a guitar for these sessions that he had purchased from Junior Watson that was used on the now classic My Blues sessions for Kim Wilson. Look for an early Spring release by The Insomniacs in 2009!

2009 KEEPIN THE BLUES ALIVE AWARDS

On February 7, 2009 in Memphis, Tennessee, The Blues Foundation will honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the Blues world.  The recipients of the Keeping the Blues Alive (KBA) Awards are selected on the basis of merit by a select panel of Blues professionals.  We are very proud to announce that among these honorees, Delta Groove Music, after four years of hard work and thirty notable releases and counting, is being recognized for its achievements as a Record Label.  Another KBA recipient is Delta Groove and Eclecto Groove Producer, David Z, who has worked on such projects as The Mannish Boys "Lowdown Feelin'", Mike Zito "Today", Ana Popovic "Still Making History", Cedric Burnside & Lightnin' Malcolm "2 Man Wrecking Crew" and upcoming release, Bobby Jones feat The Mannish Boys “Comin’ Back Hard”.  David Z is being honored for his work as Producer on a number of releases integral to the blues community.


LIVING BLUES AWARDS CRITIC POLL:

Living Blues recently published the list of winners of their annual Living Blues Awards Critics’ Poll in the October issue of the magazine. Delta Groove CEO Randy Chortkoff was named Producer of the Year – New Recording, undoubtedly for the steady stream of quality releases he has produced or co-produced which have been issued by the Delta Groove label this past year including the critically acclaimed 4th release “Lowdown Feelin’” by The Mannish Boys, and “Going Back Home” by Phillip Walker.  Additionally, Walker’s “Going Back Home” received an award for Best Blues Album of 2007 in the New Recordings / Contemporary Blues category. Elvin Bishop’s latest release "The Blues Rolls On" has been holding steady on the Billboard Blues chart since its debut at #5 it’s first week out the gate. With a total of eight consecutive weeks now on the chart, the album is currently resting at #10 on the latest charting information which will be issued on November 29th.

The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue also saw their release "Command Performance" re-enter the charts at #13 for the week of November 11th, bringing their total number of weeks spent on the chart up to thirteen with a peak position of #6.

The Mannish Boys have just returned from Lucerne, Switzerland having performed at the 14th Annual Lucerne Blues Festival. KASHMAR ON THE FRONTLINES:

Since joining the ranks of the popular 70’s funk-rock band War, Mitch Kashmar has served his time well. In October the band released their first new recording in 14 years along with a companion DVD titled Greatest Hits Live featuring Kashmar on harmonica. The band was also nominated for induction into the 2009 Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame and they recently performed live on television on the Bonnie Hunt Show. It would seem that Kashmar will remain on the battlefront for some time to come.
