Before you slip this disc into your CD player you might want to get real comfortable, better yet you may want to grab some beer and snacks because once the music starts you’re not going to want to move until you’ve heard it through two or three times.

Los Fabulocos are one of those groups that come along every so often to remind us that American music is alive and doing just fine. Whether they are singing their brand of the Cali-Mex sound in English or Spanish one can’t help but feel their soulful passion for the things they sing about—love, heartache and working class life in America.

Veterans of Southern California’s Chicano music scene, Jesus Cuevas, drummer Mike Molina and bass player James Barrios have teamed up with legendary blues guitarist Kid Ramos to continue their musical journey down the road that their musical ancestors paved.

The bands remakes of Rockin’ Dopsie’s “You Ain’t Nothing But Fine,” “Crazy Baby” (inspired by Doug Sahm’s version), Lloyd Price’s 1958 classic “Just Because” and the great cancíonero Mexicano Cornelio Reyna’s “Como Un Perro” take us to the depths of their musical roots.

Los Fabulocos Cali-Mex sound (the west coast cousin of the Tex-Mex sound) is put into over-drive with several original compositions driven by Jesus Cuevas’ squeeze box and the guitar work of Kid Ramos who leads the band on the smoking instrumental “Burnin‘ The Chicken.”

As each tune begins you may ask yourself as I did “Is this blues? Traditional rancheras? Maybe it’s swamp rock or that Tex-Mex sound?” In the end you’ll realize that it’s music for the soul—good ole’ rock ‘n roll.

FROM RANDY CHORTKOFF: Having known Kid Ramos for many years and being a huge fan myself, I knew upon hearing his latest venture with Los Fabulocos that this project would strongly add to the flavor and diversity of the Delta Groove label. Being from California myself, I saw this as a perfect fit and a wonderful opportunity to expand our brand to accommodate a larger slice of the American musical art form without straying too far from my original vision for the label. Their music encompasses the roots of all American music; from Rhythm & Blues to Rockabilly, Tex-Mex to Blues, to the origins of early Rock ‘N’ Roll. On top of that, they’re also the greatest bunch of guys you could ever meet. I wish them all the very best and the greatest of success in their future endeavors.
