Ana Popovic was pushing her baby stroller and admiring the beauty of a summer morning in - well, someplace.
She didn't know where she was - it turned out to be Osage Beach, Mo. - and had no one to ask. "This is America, so no one else is walking," she said by phone.
That's one difference she finds on tour. "In Europe, I'm on my bike all the time. I don't ever have to use my car."
Still, this is her promised land. "Blues was always what I wanted to do," said Popovic, who speaks four languages and write lyrics in English. "My dad had all the records - Elmore James , Robert Johnson."
That was in Belgrade. Popovic, 32, started to study graphic art, but realized it wasn't what she wanted. "Music is the most beautiful job in the world."
She had started the guitar at 15 and got her first gig at 20. Soon, she was accepted at a music school in the Netherlands.
She still lives there with her boyfriend and their 7-week-old son, Luuk, except now she has a U.S. label and tour. By night, she plays blistering guitar solos; by day, she takes little Luuk on walks in this strange, pedestrian-free nation
