Those of us in the over 40 crowd probably remember Elvin Bishop most for his 1976 hit, Fooled Around and Fell in Love, though I'd say that his most important work was with the ground-breaking Paul Butterfield Blues band back in the '60's.  Lesser-known stints, however, include a role in the legendary Allman Brothers' Fillmore Concerts.

For a good taste of some of Elvin's work, take a listen to Travelin' Shoes (and, no, it's not the Little Feat song--it's an Elvin original).

In any event, Elvin's mogging, now.  It looks to be largely a promotional effort, and the one cut he's posted, a remake of Struttin' My Stuff, featuring Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes, has a very nice groove to it.  I'm now looking forward to the album's release in September.

I am, however, hoping that Elvin takes some time to share more than just a few promotional cuts.  For those of us with more than a passing interest in how music is made, people like Elvin can offer insights into the way music evolves when musicians take various ideas and mold them into the music we love. This is the power that Mog offers.  Musicians can share not only their music, but also stories about how the music is made: sort of an unedited, unvarnished version of Behind the Music.
