Have you heard anything by the Portland, Oregon area blues band, The Insomniacs? Maybe not, but you need to check them out. They have just released their debut CD, Left Coast Blues on the Delta Groove Productions label. You can review their CD on their myspace.com web site. The key song on this one is Shake The Chandelier. By all means, if you play in any ballroom, it will surely shake the chandelier from all of the foot movement this song will bring to the floor. Though in my opinion, this is the best song for our market, some may think that Serves Me Right is a better song. May be! I’ll let you choose. In addition, there is plenty of West Coast swing to satisfy the fast steppers. This Jump Blues band is fronted by one of the youngest hot blues men around…25-year-old Vyasa Dodson. He is backed by a group of established pros that create a powerful and dynamic sound that keeps people dancing until the wee hours of the morning.

Here are some other songs that have recently been released, or, at least, first heard at the Fall Migration of the Society of Stranders several weeks ago in the Ocean Drive section of North Myrtle Beach. Some are available now; others are still in the making and will be released in the very near future. There really was no particular song that dominated the week, or songs for that matter, but the following songs I heard in the clubs more than once. In no particular order…What A Life by The L.A. Blues Alliance; Oh, Oh, Oh Baby by Sugar Ray & The Bluetones; She’s Yours by The Souls; Day In Day Out by Paul M; I’m So Glad It’s Summer by Admiral Ice; Ooh I She So Fine by Doug Winstead & The Coco Loco Party Band; Money Honey and Save Room For My Love by The Craig Woolard Band; Ain’t That The Truth by Danny Brooks; Mustang Sally by Robert “Bibo” Walker; Meet Me At Mary’s Place by Cliff Ellis & Oscar Toney, Jr.; She’s My Queen by Ronnie Barnes; I Know It’s Hard But It’s Fair by The Holiday Bandand Walk Away From Love by Sea-Cruz. The Rickey Godfrey Band’s She’s The One I Love has been around for quite some time, being on and off the charts. It, however, seemed to have a new lease on life during the ten-day event.
