MITCH KASHMAR "NICKELS & DIMES"

Mitch Kashmar, Nickels & Dimes (Delta Groove). This West Coast-based harp player and singer has all the musical moves covered, and as an added cherry on top he’s also got Jr. Watson on guitar. Bluesmen just don’t get much more creative than Watson, and every band he’s been in has upped their smoke quotient when he’s on strings. Which isn’t to say that Kashmar is a slouch, because he’s anything but. He has the tone you only come by after years of playing the instrument, and never over blows just to show off his chops. World-class harp players – like Little Walter, Paul Butterfield, George “Harmonica” Smith, Kim Wilson and a few others – realized the key to greatness lies in the way the instrument steps out front at exactly the right time and know just when to go for the gutter. Kashmar might be a new name on the Mississippi saxophone to all but the most devoted, but hopefully Nickels & Dimes will correct that mistake posthaste, because he can definitely put it in the alley with the best of them.
